As I was completing research towards my Acting Ensemble classes here at SHU, I came across two opposing opinions that I felt were important to explore, to inform my contribution to the Little Amal project. Incorporating socio-political aspects into my Performing Arts career has always inspired me to help create change and push towards a better future- so why stop now? I compared the inspiring quote below (I'll let you use your imagination to acknowledge which one this is) with the other one and I am going to use this as grounds of an analysis to inform my own performance piece.

“To be called a refugee is the opposite of an insult; it is a badge of strength, courage, and victory"- American Office for Refugees

"Allowing refugees into the United Kingdom will only risk our security"- British UKIP Political Party Leader

As well as this, my time on the Acting and Performance course here at SHU has certainly been an eye-opener towards how I can effect others with the work I create. Using a small bit of the research I completed (discussed above) towards the Little Amal project, I am hoping to create an informed, thorough and effective piece of work which can then be performed to the public as Sheffield welcome Amal into the city. For the better.

  • I love the use of quotes throughout the blog which create a very real sense of the work that you've completed :) as well as the inclusion of socio political issues :D
