Hachette UK, the UK’s second-largest book publishers, have just opened a new audiobook recording studio in Sheffield (our first studio outside of London!) as part of our company’s initiative to make publishing and our books more reflective of the society we live in.
With the development of this audiobook studio, we are proactively seeking different voices and talent from regional and working-class communities who are often overlooked by the traditional, london-centric publishing and acting industries.
We want to reach out to the acting students of Sheffield to invite people with little/no experience, but a desire or even slight interest in narrating audiobooks into the studio to see what it would be like to be a reader for us. We feel that audiobooks and VO work are sometimes an overlooked side of the acting industry, so this gives people the opportunity to be inside the studio, get a feel for how audiobooks work and experience being recorded live in the booth.
If this opportunity sounds like something you would be interested in, please record a quick 3–5 minute sample from any book you like (recording through your phone is absolutely fine!) and email it to me on Millie.Gee@Hachette.co.uk.
Please see the attached file for more info regarding application. Any questions feel free to email me :)
