Lungs – Character Descriptions & Synopsis

Jude:

Jude is the middle child out of 3 brothers.

He is 23 years of age.

The family is of poor background, but Jude pushes hard to lead a life outside of poverty. He works hard as a bartender, working late nights 5 days a week and occasionally coaches boxing to afford a flat for himself and his younger brother, Adam, who’s 17 years of age and still at college.

After his mum died of lung cancer 3 years ago on the 9th of September – Jude has been very committed to the health of his lungs and has therefore worked very hard to become a good level amateur boxer as well as going completely cold turkey from smoking the day his mum died, a vow that himself and the older brother, Harvey took in respect for their mother.

Ada/Adam:

Adam is the youngest sister/brother out of 2 older brothers

She/He is 17 years of age.

Ada/Adam is in his/her final year of college studying hard for his A-Levels and BTECs studying PE, Media and History. He/She is currently on the route to failing all his/her courses with all the little work he/she has produced, says the teachers.

Ada/Adam also works as a kitchen porter/Waitress in his/her local pub on weekends around his/her lessons at college.

Although he/she received arguably the most attention from his parents growing up, he/she never felt like the favorite child, to him/her it always seemed like Jude was the favorite and even more so when their mum died 3 years ago as their father, John never showed a lot of love towards Ada/Adam.

Ada/Adam has always thought his father has looked slightly down on him/her, although he completely denies it.

Synopsis

Within this short 5 min drama – We see the slightly conflicting relationship unfold as we follow two younger brothers, Adam and Jude throughout their day making their way to their old house where all 3 brothers and the father will be together in remembrance of their mother who died 3 years ago on this day. Through three different scenes - leaving their accommodation, making their way to the train station and on the train, we see the brothers bicker and discuss their life values.
