Hi, my name is Lillie Brightey, I am a British actor from Peterborough. I am currently studying in Sheffield at Sheffield Hallam University where I am training and improving my skillset through the BA hons Acting and Performance degree.
As an actor I have had he opportunity to perform in plays and showcases as a part of a youth theatre group for the last two years, called URock. During my time at URock I was part of the performance created for Connections, a youth drama competition run by National Theatre performed in Norwich. In 2019, we performed Salt by Dawn King. This provided me with the chance to work alongside directors from National Theatre and allowed me to have an input into lighting, costume and set design.
The youth theatre also provided me with the opportunity to work on a commissioned piece issued by Peterborough City Council. In which I worked closely with local schools and Peterborough Police to create a performance illustrating the dangers of knife crime and how this can be prevented/ reduced within the youth.
During my time at school, I took part in the annual theatre production, in my final year in 2019 this was The Musical Mashup in which I was casted in the adaptation of the Disney musical Tangled which involved dancing to Mother Knows Best and the musical Blood Brothers by Willy Russel. This section of the showcase allowed me to take a directorial role, being responsible for organising and creating the entire Blood Brothers performance from costume design to choreography of the dances and songs.
As an artist I have a huge passion in using acting as a form of spreading awareness and as a conversation starter into many taboo and current topics within society which should be spoken about on a larger scale. As a result, a lot of my previous works have been centred around subjects like drug abuse, sexual assault and homophobia, for example Five Kinds of Silence by Shelagh Stephenson and a modernisation of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson.
