My name is Nathan Powell. I’m 18 and I’m from Porthcawl in South Wales. I’m a welsh actor and I’ve been studying acting since January 2015. I am currently studying and training in Sheffield Hallam University to an Acting BA Hons degree.
My acting career started in 2015 in Bridgend youth theatre working on a show called Vackees which was in Porthcawl Pavilion. The Show was about children leaving london and moving into welsh familles homes during WW2. In 2016 we worked on Annie the show and I was cast as the President of the United States. In 2017 I had to drop out due to personal reasons. Before I had to drop out I had the chance to be an extra in a short film called Dad by It’s my shout.
After I did Bridgend Youth Theatre I had my GCSE’s where I chose acting and worked on Brecht. As part of the final year of GCSE we had to do the school show which was Oliver. After we worked on Oliver as our final task we had to write and devise our own showcase performances that would last 20 minutes each and they were linked to Nazi Germany.
I chose to leave school and go to Bridgend college where I chose a UAL course in acting and performing. We worked on Blue stockings using Stanislavski acting techniques. My character in the show was “Will Bennett” . He was a student at King's college in 1890’s and he was in love with the main character of the story called “Tess Moffat”. The next project I worked on was “Chatroom” by Edna Walsh written in 2005. I had the character of “William Collins”. We never got round to performing “Chatroom” due to Covid-19. We worked on extracts from Caryl Churchill's plays as our first assignment in second year of college then our final assignment was Julius Caesar where I had to multi-role 5 characters. Within my time in Bridgend college I had 3 paid acting jobs the first was at a fright night in Saint Athens with a studio company called “Dresd Studio” then I had another acting job in Dresd Studio as a extra in a short film called “Motion Sickness” following the year of Covid-19 I also got a job as a Elf at christmas in Gilston Manor in Saint Athens in 2020.
