This semester we are running two film projects in collaboration with the School of Teaching and Learning at Sheffield Hallam, and we are looking for camera and lighting operators, editors and producers to work with our actors on these films.
Our first project is a Black-led short horror film. A group of Black students are telling ghost stories around a camp fire, unaware that these stories are coming to life around them. We are particularly interested in working with Black students as part of the film crew for this project.
Our second project is a series of LGBTQ+ non-verbal short films, where each film will focus on a different queer story. For this project, we would like to work with students from an LGBTQ+ background and/or allies to the LGBTQ+ community as part of the film crew.
For each project, there will be the opportunity to work with an industry mentor to shape your ideas. We are aiming to complete the projects by Easter 2026, and they will be screened as part of the Future Now festival (20th-24th April) and at the University's School of Teaching and Learning conference in July. These films are part of a wider research project into exploring student-led learning opportunities for under-researched communities, and there will be the chance for you to take part in this research if you wishl.
If you are interested in taking part in either of these film projects, please contact Dr James Lovelock (Lecturer in Acting and Performance) on j.lovelock@shu.ac.uk for further information.
