Hi I'm James and I'm originally from a town in the Midlands called Kettering.Over the last year I finished a HNC Acting course in Manchester at the Arden School of Theatre where I met lots amazing actors and friends, some of which are now studying at amazing drama schools. I really enjoy swimming and am hoping to be able to pick it up again soon as I had to stop for quite a few years due to a medical condition which hopefully (fingers crossed) will be fixed soon!! I also love music and listen to it constantly, I can play guitar somewhat well, tried teaching myself piano which didn't go so well and I'm hoping to learn how to sing properly too. Another thing I really enjoy is history and historical shows which I am quite passionate about acting in one day, from fantasy like Lord of the Rings to period pieces like The Tudors. As a child I was brought up in a martial arts family and reached black belt 1st Dan in Tae Kwon Do and although I no longer practice it, a lot of what I've learned about control and discipline stuck with me. I think that is also a reason why I'm more drawn to classical acting which focuses a lot on self-control and disciplined rehearsal.
Though I have always been someone whose performed in public to various degrees, my passion for becoming an actor started in Sixth Form which is when my teacher, Mrs. Fraser, (I'd love to say thank you to her one day) told me i should try and get into drama school and become an actor as she believed I had the ability to do so. I had performed in a few school shows and co-starred in the musical School of Rock before moving to Manchester and joining a drama school. At the start I felt as though my knowledge and ability was behind everyone else because A-level Theatre Studies really ins't for acting to be honest, it doesn't teach you a lot performance wise. But I quickly caught up and learnt so much about the process of working with scripts, stage and screen performance, ways of getting work and networking in this industry. But also I grew in confidence which was one of my main issues that held me back, and it's something I'm still working on but I really cannot wait to see how I change as an actor and a person over the next 3 to 4 years here in Sheffield.
