I’m Amelia, I’m 19 and I’ve just finished a gap year where unfortunately I didn’t do anything majorly exciting, unless you count retail work as thrilling!
I was born in Harrogate but I grew up in Leeds and I was home educated up until I was 14.
I’ve been acting and dancing since I was around 8 years old, however I only started considering it as a possible career when I was older. I completed an extended diploma in performance and production arts at college and it solidified my love for the arts. I was really lucky with my classmates and we created some really strong productions.
I recently completed a BADC qualification in single sword and hand to hand stage combat, which was an absolutely incredible experience. I would love to utilise this in any performances we might do in the next 3 years!
Some of my non acting related hobbies include, reading, writing and baking. I love almost anything physical and active! Although, you won’t find me jumping out of a plane any time soon.
I’ve been lucky enough to see many incredible performances, whether that was my peers showcasing monologues, watching live musicals or films and TV. Although these have all inspired me in different ways if I had to choose a performance that has stuck with me the most, it would actually be my own final performance! Due to a broken nose on stage mid show I was unable to continue in the production and after a swift A+E trip I actually went back to sit in the audience and watch the rest of the production. The production was a retelling of homers Odyssey, it included a mixture of classical Greek choral theatre, naturalism and physical theatre.
As an audience member the combination of the styles of theatre was so visually and audibly engaging. It inspired me to experiment through performance much more. Previously to watching the production I was adamant I only wanted to work in naturalist styles for screen, even during the rehearsals I was hesitant about the choral and exaggerated elements. But as soon as I saw it from an audiences perspective, I changed my mind!
I hope to gain a better understanding of all styles of theatre and acting, as well as further developing my confidence to create my own stories and performances. I would love to explore more stage combat and physical theatre as well as emotionally challenging characters and stories. The dream is to act as my career but I also love the idea of teaching drama as well!
I look forward to meeting you all! <3
