Acting in a park, a new found profession.

Acting in a park, a new found profession.

During my first week at Sheffield Hallam University my course leader Tom Payne and the other humanities teachers had been kind enough to prepare a small trip to the lovely Endcliffe Park as a nice ice breaker and to get to know everyone on the Acting & Performance course.

This trip included a small creative workshop where I got to work closely in smaller groups with other people on the course. All 10 of these smaller groups were placed in random locations around the park and were given 30 minuets to come up with a small performance with the stimulus being based around the surroundings in which we were placed.

Me and my group were lucky enough to have been located a massive green space with a beautiful tree in the middle. This tree inspired us to base our piece around these cult-like characters who were trying to protect the tree from others. We grabbed people from the audience and used them as our sacrifices for the tree. It felt great to get the audience involved and I enjoyed working with such creative minds and people who weren’t embarrassed to throw themselves into the deep end and do what they loved... act.

We then walked round and watched everyone else’s performances, and it was incredible seeing what ideas everyone had come up with and how well they all fit with the location they were placed in. Overall, it was a really fun experience, and I will for sure be visiting Endcliffe Park again sometime soon.
