My name is Matthew Carroll, an aspiring actor, director and writer based in Sheffield and I am currently studying BA Acting & Performance at Sheffield Hallam University.
My love for performance stems from spending time with family and friends on weekends at both the cinema and local theatres. Particularly watching live performances that were thought-provoking inspired me to begin creative writing. In doing so I have written 2 complete original plays to date that I hope to explore in more depth over the years to come.
I have a vast experience of performing spanning over 10 years with recent projects including Half a Sixpence 2016, A Clockwork Orange 2014, Romeo & Juliet 2015, Madness of King George III 2015 and Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein 2014. I have been heavily involved in amateur dramatic groups within Sheffield and the surrounding areas as a director, most recently directing a youth theatre production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory 2018. I am also a huge fan of comedy and whilst many roles I have performed have been dramatic, I also enjoy exploring comedy and it’s theatrical value.
During my time living in York I took part in theatre workshops with Penelope Wilton, alongside running a successful local radio show. During previous summers I have also taken part in RSC workshops and stage combat workshops in London and over the years to come I hope to develop my skills further, whilst gaining new experiences to forge a successful career in the performance industry.
