Hi! My name is Robert Watts (preferred to be called Bobby) and I am from the city of Kingston upon Hull where I have lived my entire life with my mum and dad. I am autistic, so if I am awkward on our first interaction then I apologise. Besides my love and absolute passion for acting, I also have a large variety of different interests and hobbies like travel and transport, dogs, tech, and babysitting my niece. I have an interest in travel and transport because me and my dad have a day out once every month or two and because my dad can’t drive, we always take public transport to get to the places we want to have a day out to. I always enjoy going on days out with my dad and one of the main reasons why I enjoy it so much is that we have to take public transport to get to the places that we want to go. I have an interest in dogs because I have a dog and I love taking her on walks out and for me its a good way to quickly move away from stressful situations and embrace the great outdoors. I have an interest in tech because I spend most of my free time at home on tech doing a variety of different things like listening to podcasts, watching stand-up comedy, listening to music etc. I have an interest in babysitting my niece because over the summer of the past two years I have been fortunate enough to get to babysit her once a week and I always enjoy taking her out to places that I went to when I was in my childhood.
I have been lucky enough to take part in a variety of different productions, including performing at York Theatre Royal performing a lead role as part of the National Theatre Connections Festival this year.
A performance that has really inspired me is the musical act of Hamilton. Hamilton really inspires me and the specific elements of the musical that stood out to me was that in the first Act, it shows Hamilton growing from being an orphan to marrying Eliza Schuyler, being involved in the American Revolutionary War and having a career as a lawyer and being Secretary of the Treasury and that shows the successes of Hamilton’s life and that really inspires me to keep going in life. This has heavily influenced my perspective and creative aspirations by me having a completely different perspective on life. After watching Hamilton, I now think that the purpose of life is to be as successful as possible, but at the same time I also think that the purpose of life is to enjoy it as much as possible and make the most of life. I was also lucky enough to watch Hamilton at the Victoria Palace Theatre in London.
What I hope to achieve during my time at Sheffield Hallam University is that I hope to have a better knowledge on different acting styles because I have been studying drama and acting for 5 years through GCSE and A Level and on both my GCSE and A Level Courses, I have only really been taught the acting style of Theatre. Even though I love the acting style of Theatre, I would love and I am excited to explore different acting styles like acting for screen, audio and digital media. I am excited to explore the acting style of audio because I really enjoy listening to podcasts and I use podcasts regularly for inspiration and to keep me going when I am feeling down, so I am excited to learn more about how they work and what makes a good podcast. I am also excited to explore digital media because I love to keep in touch with whats happening around the world through the news and social media. I am also excited to explore acting for screen because I am fascinated by how acting for screen works behind the scenes and I would love to learn more about how it works.
I am really excited to start the course and I am really excited to meet you all at induction!
