Typical Girl(s)

Typical Girl(s)

Why are you crying?! Is it because Typical Girls directed by Róisín McBrinn was that incredible? Or Terrible? No! This was me after waking up from a fevered nap 30 minutes late to watch it with my classmates. A typical girl you could say, never on time. Alas, I did manage to secure myself a ticket and watch the show the next day alone which to some extent I really enjoyed, however I do find that watching theatre alone takes away from a key evaluation.

I love hearing over people’s ideas and perspectives alongside my own to build a true opinion. The show itself was engaging with music being a key element within the story, but the show did leave me wanting more.

I really wanted to know more about these women, especially Jane who was played by Helen Cripps. What the hell did she do to Anna?! I ended up being more distracted thinking about the backstories and struggled to pay attention to the story.

Finally, I really enjoyed the subtitles and the use of placards during key monologues and found that the large letters combined with the stark lighting changes really helped me return to the overall story.

  • Oh no!! So sorry you missed the trip. Great that you were able to make it to the show. This is a really witty, well written and personal response. I love your choice of picture too! (but obviously not that you were moved to tears!!). Good stuff, Lucy 😊

  • A very eye-catching photo that reels you in, wanting to know more. Good criticism of the show that i very much agree with :)

    • Yes, Kira, I agree, I found myself getting drawn into the back stories too and trying to figure out what their personal motivations were.
