Welcoming Little Amal

The walk project is about a little girl called Amal who is a refugee and she is going on a journey from Turkey to Europe, stopping in Sheffield and Manchester along the way. In representation of Amal there will be a puppet that is 3.5 metres. Amal is 9 years old and is on her journey in hope to find her mother. This project helps to raise awareness of refugees and reminds people how many children are going through this again, they have to rebuild themselves and try to find education just like Amal.

Our process of creating this piece has been insightful. I have been able to research and understand the journey that she has gone through. I have been able to see where the puppet has stopped along the way as well as being able to see what performances she has encountered to represent different cultures.

Fortunately, as students at Sheffield Hallam University, I have the opportunity to perform a small piece to welcome Amal to Sheffield. To welcome Amal here in Sheffield, we will be performing at Tudor Square. Our main aim of the piece is to show a community and make Amal feel welcome here as we are representing Sheffield.
